a journey began with a BEEP, BEEP

Bruce Kullberg, founder of Unicom Services and Kullberg Designs, has received local and national recognition through his innovative and creative services. Bruce started his computer career in the early 1980’s when he purchased a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A personal computer which was connected to a black & white TV and cassette tape recorder. He self-taught himself on how to write Basic Language and wrote a few programs including a ‘Galaxy Invader’ type program which was free to download on CompuServe. After that, he was forever hooked on computers.

Celebrating 30 Years of Service

Unicom Services officially started in 1991. We created online services through Bulletin Boards (pre-Internet). We then expanded into computer systems and parts  sales which ended in 2014.  Since then, we focused on website development and creative designs for small businesses and organizations as Kullberg Designs.

Our goal has always been to provide quality products and services at an affordable price, and customer delight.

We couldn’t have taken this journey without all our loyal customers and those who have supported us over the years. We appreciate you! Many of our my customers have become friends which I will always cherish the most.  Thank you, and God bless!

more than website creation

Through our ‘MAKING A DIFFERENCE‘ programs, we are able to create and support special projects. These include Senior Citizens of Ohio, Orange Celebration, Ohio Veterans, and Senior Citizens of America.  Over the years we have supported our local community through sponsorships and donations.  When you sign up for our web design and/or hosting services, a part of your fee goes back into these programs and services to help those less fortunate.
Thank you for helping our ‘MAKING A DIFFERENCE‘ programs!

Senior Citizens of Ohio

OhioSeniorCitizens.com provides event listings, resources, information and more for our Ohio Seniors. Search Ohio Senior Centers by counties, access resources and more! It is offered for free by Kullberg Designs.

Orange Celebration

Since 2016, we have provided an easy-to-access resource offering local events, activities, information, resources, and news in Orange Township, Ohio. It is supported by local businesses and Kullberg Designs.

Ohio Veterans

As a veteran who served during the Vietnam War, I was proud to offer Ohio State Association of Veterans Service Commissioners a major discount to create and maintain their website. This helps with their budget and allows up to give back!

Kullberg Designs was selected for the 2019 Best of Lewis Center Awards in the category of Web Designer

LEWIS CENTER August 20, 2019 — Kullberg Designs has been selected for the 2019 Best of Lewis Center Award in the Web Designer category by the Lewis Center Award Program.

Each year, the Lewis Center Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Lewis Center area a great place to live, work and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2019 Lewis Center Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Lewis Center Award Program and data provided by third parties.

1990's

turn right at the Internet

[Caption: Building custom computers during the week and stocking up on computer parts and accessories, Bruce packed up his van and travel Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania for a two-day weekend computer extravaganza, selling systems and parts.]

Once the Internet became available to the public in the early 1990’s, the Online Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) was soon a thing of the past. With faster Internet speed, more information available and easy connection, people welcomed the World Wide Web. Most of the first sites were text only, but with the development of HTML, web browsers made it easier to navigate and offered pictures, colors, animation, videos and interesting graphics and fonts. The WWW changed the world as we knew it. [History of Internet]

In the early 1990’s, Bruce was creating HTML websites and started building and selling custom computer systems and parts. He started a new company called Unicom Information Services in 1991. Even though he was online with Unicom, and had created a website for himself, national celebrity Jerry Springer’s Show and others, the computer hardware side of Unicom was developing into a full time business. After a few very successful local computer fairs, he started participating in organized computer shows across the mid-west selling custom computers and parts.

Building custom computers during the week and stocking up on computer parts and accessories, Bruce would pack up his van and travel to cities in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania for weekend computer shows. Once local box stores and Internet retailers made purchasing computers and parts easily accessible to everyone, the computer shows became a thing of the past. During this time, Bruce had become a PowerSeller on Ebay, shipping custom-built gaming systems across the U.S. By the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, the computer market was changing, he shifted his efforts back into the website development and graphic designs which was still one of his major passions.

kullberg designs

In 2014, Bruce decided to expand the company name from just Unicom Services by adding Kullberg Designs to better identify this part of the business. “I felt there was a need to better focus on who we are as a business, and present ourselves so the public had a better understanding of what we do”, explained Bruce. “Currently we include the Unicom Services name and logo on our sites since many people know the Unicom name, and I want to make sure the understand we are the same organization.”

Kullberg Designs has created many websites for local businesses, associations and others. Each website is custom made, using either Bootstrap or WordPress platforms.  Selecting a platform usually has to do more with the clients needs and budget.  The nice thing about us is we keep our overhead very low so we can pass the savings on to our clients. Besides, creating websites and graphic designs is a passion, not a necessity.  So each one is delivered with a bow around it – we take the utmost pride in it’s creation.  You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and other social media services.

Receiving recognition for doing what he loves to do is both appreciated and thankful. And given the opportunity to serve his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, he is a proud member of the  Veterans Owned Business.

We have supported the Olentangy Education Foundation for several years. The first time was through our partnering organization, OrangeCelebration.com, and most recently Kullberg Designs. A part of our website fees are given back to our community to help others further their education.
